Specimen Requirements
Collection Information:
Collect tissue or fluid using standard procedures.
Acceptable specimens: Fresh frozen tissue specimen, paraffin embedded tissues, and non-blood body fluids are acceptable. Sputum specimens can be tested for Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex and/or Mycobacterium avium complex only (see TBCDNA/MAVDNA for details). Please call before collecting specimen with swab (e-swab is acceptable)
Minimum Sample Volume:
requested: 1 mL Fluid; 1 cubic centimeter Tissue preferred
minimum: Diagnostic yield generally proportional to specimen size.
Stability/Transport
Frozen Stability:
Specimens can be held for up to 1 - 2 months at -20 C if testing is desired
Freeze specimens in sterile containers at -20°C. Transport all specimens on dry ice.
Unacceptable Conditions
Tissues free-floating in formalin; samples containing citrate, or heparin; Blood/Serum specimens; stool; swab/fluid collected in tube containing agar
