Specimen Requirements
Collection Information:
Preferred specimen: Nasopharyngeal swabs in Universal Transport Media (UTM) or viral transport media (VTM)
Acceptable: Nasal wash in sterile container
Unacceptable Conditions:
Nose and throat swabs are not acceptable specimens and will be rejected.
Note:
1. The following specimens may be inhibitory to PCR testing and will be rejected:
A. Calcium alginate swabs.
B. Cotton-tipped swabs.
C. Swabs sent in gel or Aimies transport medium. (eSwabs)
