Specimen Requirements
Preferred Collection Container: green top heparin tube, SST
Also Acceptable Collection Container: serum red top tube
Collection Information:
Collect 0.5 mL of Lithium heparinized plasma or serum.
Serum or plasma must be separated from cells within 2 hours of collection.
Underfilling of tubes may account for low CO2 results of up to 3 mmol/L.
