Specimen Requirements

Preferred Collection Container: Cord blood red top tube

Acceptable Collection Container: EDTA purple top tube or EDTA pink top tube

Collect: 2 mL whole cord blood, red top tube. 

If cord blood was not collected, the test can be be performed on a healstick or EDTA purple or pink top tube labeled appropriately.

Labeling guidelines if EDTA sample collected:

Allen in-patient: Label specimen with sunquest cart printed label scanned at the bedside or hand written orange label completed at patient bedside.

Allen out-patient: Label specimen with preprinted sunquest label, chart label, or hand written label (not orange label).
