Collect 1 mL arterial whole blood in pre-heparinized syringe, plain syringe, capillary tube, or heparinized test tube (dark green top tube with NO gel). Do NOT expose to air.

pH is the degree of acidity or alkalinity and is a way of expressing hydrogen ion activity. Cord pH is more acidic than arterial pH. Testing is used to objectively determine fetal metabolic condition at the time of delivery.
