Specimen Requirements

Preferred Collection Container: green top lithium heparin tube, SST 

Also Acceptable Collection Container: serum red top tube or EDTA purple top tube 

Collection Information:

Collect 1 mL of Lithium heparinized plasma or serum x3. Draw baseline Cortisol. Cortrosyn (Synthetic ACTH) is administered per physician order. Draw Cortisol at 30 minutes post stimulation. Draw another Cortisol at 60 minutes post stimulation. 

Serum or plasma must be separated from cells within 2 hours of collection.
