Specimen Requirements

Secretions are most easily collected by having patient blow nose on waxed paper or cellophane. If no secretion is available by blowing the nose, remove it by swabbing with a cotton applicator. Smear the secretion evenly over 1 or 2 glass slides labeled (in pencil) with the patient's name and birthdate. Allow to air dry and send to the lab in a slide holder.
