Specimen Requirements

Preferred Collection Container: 

SST (Serum Separator)

 

Also Acceptable Collection Container: 

Lavender (EDTA)
Light Green (Lithium Heparin Plasma Separator Tube)
Green No Gel (Lithium Heparin)
Red (No Additive)

 

Collection Information: 

Collect blood in a SST (Serum Separator) tube. Lavender (EDTA). Light Green (Lithium Heparin Plasma Separator Tube), Green No Gel (Lithium Heparin) and Red (No Additive) also acceptable.

 

Transport Information: 

Centrifuge and aliquot 3.0 mL of serum or plasma into a plastic transport vial. Send frozen.

 

Minimum Sample Volume: 

1.5 mL of serum (approximately 3.0 mL of whole blood based upon a normal patient hematocrit)

 

Remarks: 

Serum or plasma must be separated from cells within 45 minutes of venipuncture. To avoid delays in turnaround time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples, please submit separate frozen specimens for each test requested.
