Specimen Requirements

Preferred Collection Container: green top heparin tube

Also Acceptable Collection Container: SST, serum red top tube

Collection Information:

Collect 0.5 mL of Lithium heparinized plasma. Do NOT use alcohol for arm preparation; use iodine prep.

Serum or plasma must be separated from cells within 2 hours of collection.

If the alcohol level is below 11 mg/dL, "Not Detected" will be resulted with the comment "This assay is not able to detect alcohol levels below 11 mg/dL."
