Specimen Requirements

A FASTING glucose sample is drawn and anlyzed prior to glucose dose. If gucose <126 mg/dL provide adult male, post partum female, or non-pregnant female patients with 75 grams of glucose (Glucola). Pediatric patients receive 1.75g per kilogram of body weight up to a maximum dose of 75 grams.

Collect: 1.0mL of Lithium heparinized plasma 2 hours after ingestion of glucose solution.

Plasma must be separated from cells within 2 hours of collection.
