Specimen Requirements

A FASTING glucose sample is drawn and anlyzed prior to glucose dose. If gucose <126 mg/dL provide patient with 100 grams of glucose/Glucola (Glucola comes in bottles of 50g and 100g; give dose based upon bottle available). 

Collect: 1.0mL of Lithium heparinized plasma 1, 2, and 3 hours after ingestion of glucose solution.

Plasma must be separated from cells within 2 hours of collection.
