Important Note

Only performed on females. For males order send out test HCGT to PathLabs. HCG is normally present only in trace amounts in the sera of non-pregnant women or not at all. However, during pregnancy it becomes markedly elevated. Notes: 1)ß-HCG can be useful tumor marker tests for monitoring gestational trophoblastic neoplasm and germ cell tumors of the testis and ovary. 2)Elevated ß-HCG levels have been observed in ovarian cancer, breast cancer, melanoma, GI tract neoplasm, sarcoma, lung cancer, renal cancer, and hematopoietic malignancies.

Also Acceptable Collection Container: lithium heparin plasma or EDTA plasma @ Allen

Collection Information:

Collect 1 mL serum.

Serum or plasma must be separated from cells within 2 hours of collection.
