Useful For
Estrogen receptors are cellular proteins which bind their respective steroid hormone as a prerequisite to eliciting a cellular response. Measurement of estrogen receptors in the cytosol of mammary carcinoma tissue is performed to assess whether or not a tumor is likely to respond to endocrine therapy. Notes: 1) Estrogen receptor negative tissue rarely responds to endocrine therapy. 2) Approximately 55% of estrogen receptor positive tumors will respond to endocrine therapy.
