Preferred Collection Container: green top lithium heparin tube, SST 

Also Acceptable Collection Container: serum red top tube or EDTA purple top tube

Collection Information:

Collect 1 mL of Lithium heparinized plasma or serum.

Serum or plasma must be separated from cells within 2 hours of collection.

Useful For

Luteinizing Hormone (LH) determinations are useful for the prediction of ovulation, in the evaluation of infertility, and the diagnosis of pituitary and gonadal disorders. LH and FSH are gonadotropins from the anterior pituitary gland. The menstrual cycle is divided, by a mid-cycle surge of FSH and LH, into a follicular phase and a luteal phase. Notes: 1)LH and FSH are elevated in: a.Primary gonadal failure b.Complete testicular feminization syndrome c.Precocious puberty 2)LH and FSH are decreased in: a.Failure of the pituitary or hypothalamus
