Physicians may request that a peripheral smear be examined by a pathologist or a technologist may request a pathologist to review a peripheral smear when unusual cell types are found.

Need CBC results within the past 24 hours of test being ordered.

Collect: 1.0 mL of whole blood in EDTA, purple top tube (250 uL EDTA capillary whole blood on pediatric patients).
