Specimen Requirements

Nasopharyngeal (flexible calcium alginate) swab is used for collection. Gently insert the swab through the nose to the posterior nasopharynx. Leave the swab in place 15-30 seconds, rotate, and remove. Place in the swab in viral transport media. 

Transport at room temperature or refrigerated.
