Additional Information: Indicate specimen source on specimen container and on request.
Label transport tube with at least two patient identifiers.( Name, medical record number , and date of birth.) Transport the swab collection device and the requisition in a plastic transport bag at room temperature to the lab.
Swab is stable for 24 hours at room temperature or 6 days refrigerated.

Methodology
18-24 hour broth enrichment followed by molecular identification. MIC testing is performed if positive and patient is allergic to penicillin.
