Specimen Requirements

Collect: 0.5 ml CSF.

General Infromation:

1. CSF specimens should be brought to the Lab immediately and testing performed immediately.

2. Do cell count and differential from last tube collected unless specific tube is indicated by physician. Indicate tube# under comment.

3. Give remaining specimen to Chemistry for tests ordered.

4. If a culture is ordered, give tube# 2 (or uncontaminated tube if there are not 3 tubes) to Microbiology.
