Test Code SPCRCD C Diff by PCR

Important Note

The C Diff by PCR should only be ordered once per hospital encounter. This test will check for the C Diff gene as well as the identification of the O27/NAP1/B1 epidemic strain. Since a positive PCR test does not necessarily mean that the toxin has been produced, all positive PCR test results will automatically be reflexed to the toxin test (SCDEIA), following the recommended ISDA guidelines.

Specimen Requirements

Collect 1.0gm (ml) of a random unformed (liquid or soft) stool specimen in a clean container.

Label the container with at least two patient identifiers (name, MRN, DOB). Transport the label with the date & time of collection, specimen, & requisition in a plastic biobag at room temp to the lab.
