5 target infectious stool panel for patient admitted less than 72 hours, NOT immunocompromised, and NO recent travel exposure.

5 targets reported: Clostridium difficile, Campylobacter, Shigella, Norovirus, Rotovirus. All 22 targets are peformed, if not detected it will not report, any others detected will be reported.

Specimen Requirements

Collect a stool sample and place in Cary Blair Media (Para-Pak C&S orange vial) within 2 hours. The preserved specimen must be to the line, slightly above or slightly below the line. 

 

Stability/Transport

Unpreserved stool stable for < 2hours.

Preserved stool in Cary Blair media is stable for 4 days at room temperature or refrigerated. 

Unacceptable Conditions

Rectal swabs, aspirates or vomitus.

Stool specimens in any transport media other than Cary Blair Media.
