Important Note

22 Target Panel for Immunocompromised or Recent Travel Exposure Patients.

The following targets will be tested: Bacteria: Campylobacter(jejuni, coli and upsaliensis.) Clostridium difficile, Plesiomonas shigelloides, Salmonella, Yersinia enterocolitica, Vibrio, Vibrio cholera. Parasites: Cryptosporidium, Cyclospora cayetanensis, Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia Diarrheagenic E. coli/Shigella: Enteroaggregative E. coli, Enteropathogenic E coli, Enterotoxigenic E coli, Shiga-like toxin-producing E coli, E. coli O157, Shigella/Enteroinvasive E. coli Viruses: Adenovirus F40/41, Astrovirus, Norovirus GI/GII, Rotavirus A, Sapovirus (I, II, III, IV)

Specimen Requirements

Collect a stool sample and place in Cary Blair Media (Para-Pak C&S orange vial) within 2 hours. The preserved specimen must be to the line, slightly above or slightly below the line. 

 

Stability/Transport

Unpreserved stool stable for < 2hours.

Preserved stool in Cary Blair media is stable for 4 days at room temperature or refrigerated. 

Unacceptable Conditions

Rectal swabs, aspirates or vomitus.

Stool specimens in any transport media other than Cary Blair Media.
